Governor Holiday pays working visit to SMMC

    On Thursday 11, 2011, His Excellency Eugene B. Holiday paid a working visit to the Sint Maarten Medical Centre (SMMC). This working visit is part of the Governor’s program to obtain a firsthand view of developments in the community and forms part of his objective to promote Excellence in Governance, including governance in health care.

    At the SMMC, the Governor was welcomed by Dr. Scott, director of the SMMC. Following an introduction to the management team of the hospital the Governor  was given a presentation on history and future plans of SMMC. The Governor received an outline of, among others, the expansion and the renovation plans, the level of health care, the plans to increase medical specializations offered at the SMMC and the financial position of the hospital.

    During the tour of the hospital the Governor was introduced to the new Hospital Information System (HIS) where he was registered in the system and obtain a “Health Card”. The governor also visited several departments where he met and spoke to patients as well as SMMC staff. The Governor applauds management and staff with the good work being done at SMMC and supports their efforts toward the continued upgrade and expansion of the medical services on St. Maarten.
